Released in 1941, Citizen Kane now top’s the American Film Institute’s list of “100 Greatest American Films of All Time.” It centers around a reporter. He’s tasked with the mission of trying to solve the mystery of Charles Foster Kane’s final word. The movie is rooted in power, corruption, and vanity, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats until the closing credits.
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Rebecca is a psychological thriller that keeps audiences guessing. While on vacation in Monte Carlo, wealthy widower Maxim de Winter falls in love with a young woman. They marry and return home to his vast estate. The new Mrs. de Winter quickly realizes that Rebecca still has a stronghold over the house, especially the domineering housekeeper. But all is not as it seems, particularly after a shocking discovery in the sea near the de Winter home.
The Lady Vanishes
Also directed by Alfred Hitchcock, The Lady Vanishes tells the story of a young English tourist traveling by train, She suddenly realizes that her elderly traveling companion has seemingly disappeared out of thin air. When the young woman turns to an investigator for help, she quickly finds herself tangled in a web of mystery and high adventure. Released in 1938, this film remains one of Hitchcock’s purest delights.
